Quality Engineer – SSN AUKUS Program

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer to join the SSN AUKUS submarine program. Based in Adelaide (Flinders Street or Osborne), you will develop inspection and test plans, support change implementation, and contribute to a fast‑growing, high‑technology defence project.

Key responsibilities

• Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) aligned to build strategy and Stage 3 drawings, including delta ITPs for changes.
• Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in line with APQP requirements.
• Create inspection and test forms for activities such as NDT, dry surveys, and tank testing.
• Lead quality investigations, analyse metrics and drive root‑cause improvements.
• Identify and assess new technologies to improve productivity.
• Maintain the Completion Management Environment and assurance records.
• Facilitate Build Assurance Working Groups and manage Preliminary Review Boards for non‑conformance reports.
• Lead Program Material Review Boards, including actions and reporting.

Required profile

• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, or an advanced trade qualification.
• Experience in complex manufacturing or engineering environments.
• Quality experience covering supplier approval, ITP development/approval and ISO 9001.
• Strong understanding of inspection planning, quality assurance and root‑cause analysis.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and build processes from the ground up.
• Experience in early‑phase or build environments and cross‑functional teamwork.
