Production Leading Hand - Open-Cut Coal Mining

About the role

Thiess is looking for an experienced Leading Hand to join its team at Caval Ridge Mine in Queensland. The role provides operational and safety leadership to the production crew so that production targets are reached safely and efficiently, while helping build a positive safety culture and meeting community and environmental standards. The roster is 7 days a week, 12.5-hour shifts, rotating day and night, with BIBO options from Mackay or Townsville.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Production Supervisor by leading a mining crew to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
• Step up as a supervisor when needed.
• Perform regular inspections and complete reports according to site policies.
• Coordinate dispatch personnel, production operators and equipment to meet production schedules.
• Apply mining practices to reduce costs and improve efficiency, and look for ways to continuously improve.

Required profile

• Experience as a Step-Up Supervisor or Leading Hand in open-cut coal mining is highly valued.
• Solid understanding of open-cut coal mining operations.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Relevant qualifications in the coal mining industry.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Strong organisational, communication and presentation skills with a friendly, motivational approach.
• Verified machinery skills list (training transcripts).
• LMS documents signed by SSE or Delegate.
• Current S123 and G2 certifications.
• Current Standard 11 and current driver's licence.
