Process Technician - Nitrates Team

About the role

Orica is hiring a Process Technician for its Nitrates team at Kooragang Island, near Newcastle, NSW. This is a full-time, permanent position in a shift team working a 12-hour rotating roster of 2-day shifts, 2-night shifts and then 6 days off, with extra hours needed to meet business and training requirements. The technician controls plant operations including start-ups and shutdowns, and also carries out plant troubleshooting, minor maintenance, project activities and permit-to-work coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safety, health and environmental operating procedures are followed in the work area
• Monitor continuous plant operation and adjust plant variables to keep it safe and efficient
• Carry out plant start-ups and shutdowns safely and efficiently
• Complete plant logs, laboratory sampling and inspections
• Take part in troubleshooting plant instabilities
• Review and update operating procedures according to site requirements
• Be trained and ready to respond to abnormal and emergency conditions

Required profile

• Electrical or mechanical trade background, Chemical Engineering, or a Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology combined with industrial experience is desirable
• Competent troubleshooting skills and experience following procedures and policies
• Team player willing to take ownership of own development and training
• Leadership experience is encouraged
• Ability to obtain a national police clearance check
