About the role
The WA Department of Justice is hiring Prison Officers to maintain safety and order within correctional facilities across Western Australia. You will work on a rotating 24/7 shift roster, supporting rehabilitation and community safety while interacting directly with inmates of various security levels.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain security, safety, and good order in prison environments.
- Guide daily interactions, de‑escalate tense situations, and model constructive communication.
- Monitor inmate behaviour, conduct searches, and enforce prison rules.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve operational goals and support inmate rehabilitation programs.
Required profile
- Australian or New Zealand citizen, or permanent resident.
- Current unrestricted Australian C‑Class driver’s licence.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Resilience, adaptability, and cultural awareness, especially regarding Aboriginal culture.

- Fully paid 12‑week training leading to a nationally accredited Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
- Competitive salary ranging from $97,610 to $111,150 per year (after training), plus superannuation.
