Principal Solicitor / Senior Solicitor, Inquiries and State Care

About the role

The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) is recruiting an experienced Principal Solicitor and Senior Solicitor for its Inquiries and State Care Team. The team provides specialist legal services to the State on complex and sensitive litigation, with a focus on state care and personal injury claims, public Inquiries and Royal Commissions. The Principal Solicitor role is fixed-term for 12 months; the Senior Solicitor role is ongoing.

Required profile

• Principal Solicitor (VPS 6.1): 6+ years' practising experience, able to lead and supervise junior lawyers; must hold or be eligible to hold an unrestricted practising certificate.
• Senior Solicitor (VPS 5): 4+ years' practising experience.
• Experience in complex and sensitive litigation, ideally personal injury and negligence claims, inquiries and/or civil litigation.
• Ability to give strategic, authoritative legal advice in writing and orally, and to work in a collaborative team.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis, including statutory interpretation and emerging legal issues.
• Discovery and document management.
• Time management and organisational skills, including contributing to precedent reviews and litigation manuals.

What we offer

• Principal Solicitor: $142,790 - $166,938 per year; Senior Solicitor: $116,413 - $140,849 per year, both plus superannuation.
