Principal Quality Officer

About the role

The Principal Quality Officer leads the Internal Audit Unit within the Forensic Services Group of the Queensland Police Service. This senior position ensures the quality management system meets NATA accreditation and ISO/IEC 17025 standards while supporting forensic managers across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team to achieve and maintain NATA accreditation for testing and calibration laboratories.
• Provide high‑level policy advice on compliance, quality management system development and best practice.
• Research, plan, analyse and interpret audit findings, delivering corrective action recommendations to senior leadership.
• Manage business improvement initiatives to align procedures with NATA and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
• Advise on audit and validation outcomes, ensuring they meet best‑practice expectations.
• Support areas seeking extensions to their scope of accreditation.
• Establish communication, liaison and reporting processes for the Superintendent of Forensic Services Group.
• Develop relationships and deliver quality advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in science (highly desirable).
• Extensive experience in quality assurance, audit leadership and administration of NATA accreditation requirements.
• Ability to travel within the area of responsibility and undertake occasional intrastate or interstate travel.
