Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of energy and infrastructure projects. The role covers the full project lifecycle—from tendering and design through execution and commissioning—ensuring safe, reliable and commercially effective mechanical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for mechanical and balance-of-plant engineering across energy storage systems and related projects.
• Lead engineering input to tenders, including technical reviews and risk assessments.
• Own mechanical engineering standards, processes and design risk management.
• Support delivery of technologies such as BESS, transformers, grid systems and data-centre infrastructure.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and the Principal Electrical Engineer on cross-discipline decisions.
• Provide escalation support for complex or high-risk technical issues.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Registered engineer status in Queensland (RPEQ) and Victoria (CAV).
• Extensive experience in power generation, rotating equipment or complex industrial plant systems.
• Proven track record of leading technical outcomes on major projects.
• Strong knowledge of balance-of-plant systems, auxiliaries and mechanical design.
• Experience with tender development, design reviews and project execution.
• Familiarity with safety-led engineering practices such as SiD, HAZOP and FMECA.
