Principal Mechanical Engineer (Building Services)

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead and grow its Building Services team in Sydney. The role sits within the national Building Engineering team, delivering iconic projects across ANZ while focusing on developing the local Sydney team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects in sectors such as health, defence, transport, commercial, aviation and data centres across NSW/ACT
• Lead mechanical and multidiscipline building services design and end-to-end project delivery, overseeing technical quality, coordination and design management with electrical, fire protection and hydraulics
• Build and maintain client relationships to support business development and secure a pipeline of future work
• Review design calculations, specifications, models and drawings and ensure best-practice documentation and coordinated outputs
• Coach and mentor junior and intermediate engineers and support high-quality design documentation

Required profile

• Ideally 10+ years' experience in building services consultancy or contracting design with a strong mechanical engineering background
• Chartered status (CPEng) essential; other registrations highly regarded
• Demonstrated experience in technical design and multi-disciplinary project delivery
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, lead multidiscipline bids and work with senior leaders on business development
• Track record of strengthening client relationships across data centres, commercial, aviation, defence or broader building markets
• Strong communicator and leader who enjoys growing teams and coaching emerging engineers
