Principal Learning Designer, First Year Belonging

About the role

The University of Queensland is seeking a Principal Learning Designer to lead a future‑funded initiative that strengthens belonging and success for large, diverse first‑year cohorts across the Schools of Psychology and Business. This senior position will shape inclusive curricula, assessments and pedagogical approaches that enhance student engagement and identity formation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development, implementation and evaluation of innovative learning experiences that embed belonging pedagogy and flexible learning.
• Advise and partner with academic and professional staff to improve curriculum, assessment and teaching practices in large first‑year programs.
• Plan and coordinate learning‑design projects, defining scope, objectives, resources and timelines with diverse stakeholders.
• Contribute to faculty‑wide learning‑design initiatives and share best‑practice exemplars.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification with at least four years of relevant experience in learning design, curriculum development or educational development in higher education.
• Strong understanding of face‑to‑face learning and ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.
• Proven ability to apply pedagogical theory to complex teaching challenges and develop scalable solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building trusted relationships with academic and professional stakeholders.
• Robust project‑management capability, able to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract (up to 3 years) with a salary range of $104,616.68 – $113,920.12 per year plus 17% superannuation.
