Principal Human Resources Advisor

About the role

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is seeking a Principal Human Resources Advisor to lead people solutions across its high‑performance sport system. This senior HR position will influence strategic workforce planning, guide complex employment matters, and help shape a values‑driven workforce as Queensland prepares for Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic workforce planning, talent mapping and succession initiatives to meet future capability needs.
• Provide contemporary advice on public‑sector employment relations, translating legislation and policy into practical solutions.
• Build trusted partnerships across sport and public‑sector stakeholders to align people strategies.
• Design and implement innovative HR policies, programs and initiatives that address emerging business challenges.
• Manage complex and sensitive employment cases, including grievances, conduct, discipline, health issues and return‑to‑work processes.
• Coach and empower a small HR team to deliver high‑quality services and enhance the employee experience.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in HR leadership within a public‑sector or high‑performance environment.
• Strong judgment, commercial acumen and the ability to influence senior leaders.
• Demonstrated capability to handle complex employment matters with a solutions‑focused approach.
• Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and values‑driven workplace.
