About the role

SMEC is seeking a seasoned structural engineer to lead transformative bridge and infrastructure projects for its Perth team. This Principal Engineer position combines technical leadership with strategic client engagement, driving engineering excellence across complex transport solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and review structural design for bridges, retaining walls, and complex transport infrastructure.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality engineering outcomes on time and within budget.
• Oversee project delivery, ensuring robust design, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
• Contribute to business development and strategic planning, including team resourcing and performance objectives.
• Support professional development and retention of junior engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in bridge and structural design at a senior level.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong client‑relationship and business development skills.
