Principal Electrical Engineer – Generation & Storage

About the role
The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead the design and delivery of medium‑voltage balance‑of‑plant systems for utility‑scale wind, solar, battery energy storage and hybrid projects. You will own the electrical design from inverter terminals through collector networks, substations and grid‑connection interfaces.
Key responsibilities
- Lead electrical design of medium‑voltage systems, including collector networks, substations, auxiliary systems and grid interfaces.
- Develop design bases, single‑line diagrams, equipment ratings, cable sizing, voltage‑drop and short‑circuit calculations, and cable schedules.
- Build and review DIgSILENT PowerFactory models and perform load‑flow, short‑circuit, voltage, reactive‑power, harmonic and contingency studies.
- Select and review transformers and major electrical plant specifications, including ratings, impedance, vector group and earthing arrangements.
- Develop protection and control philosophies, grading studies, relay requirements and commissioning plans.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, mentor engineers and provide technical review during procurement, construction and commissioning.
Required profile
- 8+ years experience designing medium‑voltage (11‑33 kV) electrical systems across concept to detailed design.
- Strong cable‑system design capability, including ampacity, voltage‑drop, short‑circuit withstand and earthing.
- Proficiency with DIgSILENT PowerFactory for power‑system studies.
- Deep understanding of transformer and switchgear specification.
- Experience developing protection and control philosophies and commissioning requirements.
- Registered or working towards registration on the Australian National Engineering Register (RPEV/RPEQ), preferably with CPEng status.
