About the role
Join a leading U.S. cyber team as the Principal Cyber Security Engineer (NV2) in Canberra. You will shape the cyber security function for a defence‑focused client, driving standards, automation and best practice across Australia and collaborating with international experts.
Key responsibilities
- Define and enforce cybersecurity standards aligned with NIST, ISO/IEC 27001 and the ASD Essential Eight.
- Prepare and submit ATO artefacts, including security documentation, risk registers and evidence packages.
- Implement and validate technical security controls in classified environments per Australian ISM and ACSC requirements.
- Develop, deploy and monitor security tools to remediate vulnerabilities and automate defensive tasks.
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability testing and security audits.
- Analyse logs and security events, detecting and responding to threats.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to embed secure authentication, encryption and access‑control solutions.
- Evaluate emerging security technologies and integrate them to strengthen infrastructure protection.
Required profile
- 6‑8+ years of cybersecurity experience, preferably in defence, government or critical infrastructure.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
- CISSP (or equivalent) and ASD‑recognised cybersecurity credentials.
- Australian citizenship with an active NV2 security clearance.
- Willingness to travel within Australia and occasionally to the United States.
