Principal Civil Engineer

About the role

An accomplished Principal Civil Engineer is needed to lead the design capability of a growing, construction‑led engineering consultancy. Working directly with the Managing Director, you will be the trusted technical counterpart, handling complex civil and temporary works designs while building systems, standards and a future‑focused team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and certify complex civil and temporary works designs, ensuring constructability and technical risk mitigation.
• Provide engineering assurance, QA and technical governance across projects involving excavations, staging, live services and high‑risk works.
• Engage directly with contractors, clients and authorities to align design intent with practical construction methods.
• Develop design systems, standards and mentor the engineering team to improve delivery through technology, AI and automation.

Required profile

• Civil Engineering qualification with RPEQ registration (or ability to obtain).
• Strong civil and temporary/ permanent works design capability.
• Experience delivering practical solutions in complex construction environments, preferably with Tier 1/2 contractor or equivalent design experience.
• Ability to work autonomously, exercise strong commercial judgement and lead a technical team.
