Power Systems Engineer - Team Leader

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a senior Power Systems Engineer to lead a high‑performing team within its Queensland Energy division. You will guide specialists in connecting renewable generation, storage and hybrid projects to the National Electricity Market (NEM) while delivering innovative, sustainable solutions for clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a diverse team of power‑systems specialists.
• Provide trusted grid advisory services covering connection strategy, performance standards, system strength and registration.
• Oversee power‑system modelling using industry‑standard tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerFactory and OEM models.
• Collaborate with engineering, commercial, digital, advisory and environmental teams to co‑create integrated solutions.
• Champion quality, continuous improvement and capability uplift within the modelling practice.
• Support business development through authentic relationship‑building and inclusive practices.
• Recruit and develop talent to build a high‑performing power‑systems capability.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in power systems, grid connection or related consulting, utility, developer or operations roles.
• Demonstrated leadership style that is collaborative, inclusive and focused on team development.
• Relevant electrical engineering qualifications and RPEQ registration (or willingness to obtain).

Required skills

• Proficiency with PSS®E, PSCAD and PowerFactory (or equivalent) for grid connection modelling.
• Strong understanding of generation control systems and system strength considerations.
• Experience delivering grid advisory services and connection strategy.
