Policy Advisor, Climate Science

About the role

The Climate Science and Impacts Team within DEECA is seeking a Policy Advisor to analyse climate science and provide evidence‑based advice that supports Victoria’s climate preparedness and circular‑economy initiatives. The successful candidate will translate scientific findings into actionable policy recommendations for senior decision‑makers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate science analysis and interpret climate projections to inform policy development.
• Prepare high‑quality, proactive policy advice for the Minister, senior executives and other government agencies.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure policy advice is authoritative and timely.
• Support the development of strategies that drive climate action, promote a circular economy and protect the environment.
• Maintain awareness of Victorian Government policy processes and integrate them into advisory work.

Required profile

• Demonstrated knowledge of climate science and climate projections.
• Experience in policy analysis and providing policy advice.
• Experience engaging with stakeholders on policy issues.
• Understanding of Victorian Government policy processes.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications, preferably postgraduate, in physical or social sciences, engineering, natural resource management, data science, mathematics, statistics, business analysis, humanities or related fields.
