Plumber – Facility Maintenance

About the role

The Plumber is a key member of a multi‑skilled team responsible for maintaining facility infrastructure and critical systems at the Joint Defense Facility Pine Gap. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining pipe systems, fixtures, and related equipment for water, natural gas, air, sewage, and industrial waste.

Key responsibilities

• Independently perform construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems in accordance with codes, specifications, and blueprints.
• Diagnose, test, and repair routine and major plumbing breakdowns, including underground sewer and water systems.
• Operate gas welding equipment for cutting, burning, and soldering as required.
• Maintain logs, records, and job‑related documentation, ensuring timely completion of work orders and safety reports.
• Promote and uphold health and safety practices, including compliance with WHS and EHS policies.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of Work Health Safety (WHS) Act and EHS policies.
• Minimum 4 years post‑trade experience in facility maintenance or a similar technical environment.
• Australian Journeyman Plumbers and Drainers Licence (or equivalent US licence) and White Card (Construction Induction).
• Medical fitness to perform physically demanding tasks and ability to obtain NV1 security clearance progressing to Top‑Secret clearance.

Required skills

• Pipe installation and repair for water, gas, air, sewage, and industrial waste systems.
• Gas welding, cutting, and soldering.
• Use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g., SAP, Archibus).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
