Plant Technician - Level 1 Shift Operator (Trainee)

About the role

Coogee, a manufacturer of industrial, agricultural and mineral processing chemicals founded in 1971, is recruiting a Plant Technician (Level 1 Trainee, Shift Operator) for its chlor-alkali plant in Lytton, Queensland. The site produces sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid and caustic soda for water treatment, swimming pools and industry. Reporting to the Plant Superintendent, the trainee follows a structured pathway to becoming a fully qualified Shift Operator in about 18 months, with on-the-job training and development.

The roster is rotating 12-hour shifts: 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts and 4 days off.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor chlor-alkali production equipment and associated systems
• Carry out routine plant inspections and identify operational issues
• Collect and test process samples to maintain product quality
• Record production data and report process deviations
• Follow safety procedures and respond to plant alarms
• Assist with plant start-ups, shutdowns and maintenance
• Work with logistics, production, maintenance and engineering teams and contribute to continuous improvement and a strong safety culture

Required profile

• Eager to learn, safety-conscious and part of a close-knit team
• Previous experience in manufacturing, processing or industrial operations is desirable but not essential
• Interest in a career in chemical manufacturing and a commitment to safety and procedures
• Motivation to complete practical and theoretical training
• Right to live and work in Australia
