Pet School Trainer (Casual)

About the role

Petbarn is looking for an enthusiastic Pet School Trainer to join the Ferntree Gully store on a casual basis. You will work with dog owners to deliver engaging, science‑based training classes while supporting the store’s retail operations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver group dog training classes and one‑on‑one sessions.
• Provide clear, positive‑reinforcement guidance to owners of all experience levels.
• Assist with retail duties, including product knowledge, stock handling and customer service.
• Maintain a safe, clean training environment and handle dogs of all sizes.
• Participate in regular paid training with senior trainers to keep skills up‑to‑date.
• Potentially expand to future kitten, cat and aquatic classes.

Required profile

• Genuine passion for animal behaviour and welfare.
• Strong public speaking and presentation abilities.
• High integrity, motivation and ability to work autonomously.
• Composure under pressure and excellent customer service orientation.
• Retail experience in a high‑volume environment is preferred.
• Relevant animal studies qualifications or positive‑reinforcement training credentials are highly regarded.

Required skills

• Positive‑reinforcement based training experience or qualifications.
• Ability to communicate training concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Physical fitness to handle dogs and lift items up to 20 kg.
