Peer Worker - Northern Sydney

About the role

Flourish Australia, a community mental health organisation, is recruiting Peer Workers for its newly established Northern Sydney team. You will work in the community with people accessing services who have a lived experience of mental health challenges, supporting them to achieve their hopes and dreams. The position is full-time (76 hours per fortnight), Monday to Friday, with outreach across the Northern Sydney Local Health District.

Key responsibilities

• Hold recovery and social citizenship conversations with service users to connect with them and build trust and reciprocity
• Guide and support each person in their recovery, keeping them the lead in their own journey
• Help reduce stigma and discrimination around lived experience of mental health challenges
• Support people to access activities that promote independence
• Support skill development through self-directed learning, information, training and education

Required profile

• Certificate IV or above in a relevant field, or at least 2 years' full-time experience in human services
• Lived experience of a mental health challenge and recovery (Peer Worker only)
• Willing and able to use that lived experience safely and purposefully
• Alignment to Flourish Australia's values and commitment to recovery-based practice
• Current Australian driver's licence; private vehicle may be used when needed, with a travelling transport allowance
