Peer Wellbeing Worker - Warmline (Suicide Prevention)

About the role

Wellways is seeking a part-time, office-based Suicide Prevention Peer Worker in Rockhampton (22.8 hours per week) for its Warmline phone support service. The role uses lived experience to support people experiencing distress, suicidal thoughts or the grief of losing someone to suicide, helping them feel heard, understood and less alone.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to initial calls and provide ongoing, scheduled phone support
• Build trusting relationships through compassionate, respectful and non-judgmental conversations
• Use lived experience thoughtfully to foster connection, understanding and hope
• Support participants to explore coping strategies, develop personalised safety plans and identify their strengths
• Encourage wellbeing, recovery and connection with appropriate support services
• Work with the Suicide Prevention Team Leader so participants receive coordinated support

Required profile

• Lived experience of suicidality or suicide bereavement, with a personal recovery journey
• Right to work in Australia
• Current driver's licence and ability to travel if required
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate (free online course)
• National Police Records Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (Blue Card in QLD)
• Desirable: Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, or equivalent experience in community or mental health services

Working hours

• Monday: 12.00 pm - 6.48 pm
• Tuesday: 11.00 am - 6.00 pm
• Wednesday: 2.00 pm - 8.00 pm
• Saturday: 12.30 pm - 5.30 pm
