Payroll Officer

About the role

An established Australian business with a large and diverse workforce is hiring an experienced Payroll Officer in Brisbane on a contract basis. Reporting to the People & Culture Manager, the role delivers accurate and compliant payroll processing, keeping employee records, time and attendance data and payroll transactions to a high standard. It works closely with operational leaders, HR and Finance so that employees are paid correctly and on time, with responsive support and resolution of payroll queries.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate time and attendance records, including overtime, leave and employee entitlements.
• Manage new employee setups, payroll adjustments, deductions and termination payments.
• Validate labour hire hours and supplier invoices.
• Prepare superannuation payments and maintain accurate payroll and personnel records.
• Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Work with operational leaders on accurate timekeeping and overtime approvals.
• Support payroll reporting, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Experience supporting payroll within a large, complex or operationally focused workforce is highly regarded.
• Attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Proactive, flexible and collaborative working style.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Enterprise Agreements and relevant employment conditions.
• Ideally experience using Kronos, ADP and SAP.
• Demonstrated experience managing time and attendance, payroll adjustments, leave entitlements and termination payments.
