Payroll Officer

About the role

The Payroll Officer will join Costco's Home Office payroll team in Sydney, supporting the end‑to‑end payroll process for employees across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will coordinate with store payroll clerks to ensure accurate and timely pay runs while meeting key performance indicators.

Key responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll for 5,500+ employees, ensuring compliance with agreements, awards and legislation.
• Coordinate with store payroll clerks to resolve clocking exceptions before each pay run.
• Maintain employee records, including new hires, terminations, pay adjustments and training documentation.
• Administer superannuation contributions each cycle and calculate monthly payroll tax.
• Balance payroll ledger accounts and post related journal entries on a periodic basis.
• Respond to payroll queries from employees, clerks and third‑party providers.
• Prepare statutory reports for the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Employment New Zealand.
• Support year‑end reporting, ledger reconciliation and production of payroll statements.

• Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines and meet payroll KPIs.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with store teams and external agencies.
• Detail‑oriented with a solid understanding of Australian and New Zealand payroll regulations.
