Pavements Engineer

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Pavements Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high‑profile aviation, ports and transport projects across Australia. You will combine deep technical expertise with client leadership, project delivery and business growth while mentoring the next generation of pavement engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead pavement design and engineering for complex infrastructure projects, providing technical direction across design, rehabilitation, materials and construction methodologies.
• Review and approve designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
• Interpret investigation and testing data (FWD, HWD, GPR, LWD, profiler, surface friction) and translate it into engineering decisions.
• Build and strengthen senior client relationships, identify opportunities and contribute to winning major projects.
• Mentor and develop engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering technical excellence.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified Civil Engineer with ~15 years of pavement engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• Chartered Engineer and/or RPEV accreditation (or working towards registration).
• Proven track record leading design and delivery of major aviation, ports or transport pavement projects.
• Strong commercial awareness, client relationship skills and a passion for developing people.

Required skills

• Pavement design, rehabilitation and materials expertise.
• Construction methodology knowledge.
• Use of pavement investigation tools: Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD), Ground‑Penetrating Radar (GPR), Light‑Weight Deflectometer (LWD), profiler and surface friction testing.
• Understanding of Australian pavement design standards.
