Pastoral Care Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a compassionate pastoral care volunteer to support the spiritual and emotional needs of an elderly client living at home in Heckenberg, NSW. The volunteer works alongside the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator and complements their work. Visits are one hour long and can be weekly or fortnightly, depending on availability.

Key responsibilities

• Provide weekly one-hour visits to a client who attends church each week and values her faith deeply.
• Offer gentle conversation, shared reflection and spiritual companionship.
• Support the client to meet their spiritual needs and nurture their spiritual development.
• Visits may include talking about faith, reading together, or simply offering a kind and listening presence.

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older.
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.

Required skills

• Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or attendance at HammondCare pastoral care training.
• Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to become a pastoral care volunteer.
