Pastoral Care Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity that supports people to stay in their homes, is looking for a pastoral care volunteer in Bathurst, NSW. You will support the spiritual and emotional needs of an elderly client who values her faith deeply, working alongside the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the client once a week for one hour, or more often depending on availability, between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday
• Support the client to meet their spiritual needs and nurture their spiritual development
• Offer gentle conversation, shared reflection and spiritual companionship, which may include talking about faith, reading together or simply being a kind, listening presence

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Willingness to commit to regular visits, such as weekly or fortnightly

Required skills

• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to complete HammondCare pastoral care training
• Spiritual Care Series in preparation for becoming a pastoral care volunteer
