Operations Coordinator – Open Space

About the role

The Operations Coordinator – Open Space supports the delivery of landscape and open‑space services across Griffith University’s northern campuses, with occasional coordination for the Gold Coast site. Reporting to the Operations Lead – Open Space, the role ensures service continuity, safety and quality while supporting the university’s ESP and hard‑scape programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day landscape activities such as garden, lawn, sports field, irrigation, tree and bushland maintenance.
• Schedule and manage contractors and subcontractors, verify field work, and report progress for ESP and hard‑scape projects.
• Monitor work quality, WHS compliance, defects and risks, escalating issues as needed.
• Assist with procurement, quotes, work orders and budget tracking.
• Liaise with Facilities, Minor Projects, Capital Works, Engineering and other stakeholders to minimise disruption.

Required profile

• Practical experience in landscape operations, horticulture, sports turf or natural area management.
• Strong contractor coordination and field follow‑up abilities.
• Ability to balance routine operations with project delivery across multiple campuses.
• Diploma or equivalent experience in a related discipline and a current Class C driver licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with digital work‑order and asset‑management tools.
• Sound judgement in identifying WHS risks, defects and service gaps.
• Effective communication with contractors, internal teams and campus stakeholders.
