Occupational Therapist - Catholic Education Services, Cairns

About the role

Catholic Education Cairns is recruiting an Occupational Therapist to provide therapy services to students in its schools and help schools meet the needs of diverse learners. The role works within a consultative framework with students, parents, teachers, learning support teachers, therapists, administration and external agencies, and strengthens students' skills to access the curriculum while supporting and training teaching staff in program implementation. It is a full-time, fixed-term position until 31 December 2027, with part-time arrangements possibly considered.

Key responsibilities

• Provide therapy services to students and build school capacity to support diverse learners
• Support and train teaching staff in program implementation and management
• Work with the Engagement Wellbeing and Learning Directorate, principals and school staff on a holistic approach to learning
• Make frequent and regular school visits

Required profile

• Formal qualifications in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Experience in a disability setting, including with children, young people and their families
• Current driver's licence
• Commitment to the objectives, vision and ethos of Catholic Education and to child safety

Required skills

• Evidence-based practice in occupational therapy in an educational setting, especially for students with disabilities
• Developing and implementing programs and training support personnel
• Teamwork, communication at all levels of the school community and professional networks with external agencies
• Inclusive practices in education and planning professional learning for staff

What we offer

• Salary of $100,600 to $159,917 FTE gross per year depending on experience
