Newsroom Producer

About the role

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is looking for a Producer to join its newsroom. You will sub-edit, produce and publish high-quality articles with strong visuals and storytelling, sub-edit newsletters and check digital assets such as video. The role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a sharp eye for detail and can deliver under tight deadlines, and involves working across morning, afternoon and weekend shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Edit and produce stories in the content management system, focusing on quality and deadlines.
• Craft headlines, write-offs and visuals to create compelling story packages.
• Liaise with reporters and topic editors to sub-edit stories and rework copy to the highest standards.
• Monitor and edit live blogs so copy is error-free and of high quality.
• Curate, edit and send newsletters.
• Enhance stories with photos, captions, videos, graphics, multimedia assets, related content and key points.
• Suggest and create additional digital elements for stories to improve audience engagement.

Required profile

• Previous experience in sub-editing and production for online news.
• Strong understanding of current affairs and a keen news sense.
• Exceptional attention to detail and knowledge of English grammar and syntax.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with legal best practices, including defamation laws.
• Knowledge of business journalism, markets and/or politics is advantageous.
• Experience with newsletters, analytics tools, SEO, social media and/or live blogs is desirable.
• Must already have the right to lawfully work and live in Australia.
