National Judicial Resource Advisor – District Court NZ

About the role

This position leads the national rostering function for the District Court of New Zealand, ensuring timely access to justice across all jurisdictions. Reporting to the Director of the Chief District Court Judge's Chambers, you will oversee the allocation of judicial resources for more than 200 judges and judicial officers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a high‑performing team responsible for end‑to‑end judicial rostering and long‑term resource planning.
• Provide strategic and analytical advice to the Chief District Court Judge, balancing competing demands and responding swiftly to change.
• Collaborate with the National Scheduler to create rosters that align with the Chief Judge’s directions.
• Use data, spreadsheets and rostering systems to model scenarios, analyse trends and recommend optimal allocation of judicial time.
• Build strong relationships with the judiciary, Ministry of Justice and sector partners to achieve successful outcomes.
• Guide the implementation of a new digital case‑flow management system for courts and tribunals.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a complex, large‑scale organisation.
• Deep understanding of the structure, business and operation of the District Court across all jurisdictions.
• Experience working in environments governed by legislation, policy and procedure.
• Ability to think strategically, consider alternative perspectives and pivot quickly.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Excel and spreadsheet analysis.
• Experience using rostering systems for resource allocation.
• Strong data analysis capabilities to identify trends and inform decisions.
