Municipal Worker - Level 3

About the role

Katherine Town Council is looking for a motivated, community-minded person to join its Infrastructure and Environment team as a Municipal Worker (Level 3). Reporting directly to the Works Coordinator, the role helps maintain, improve and beautify Council assets and public spaces across the Katherine Municipality. It is a practical, hands-on position with a wide range of outdoor tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain parks, gardens, sporting fields, cemeteries, roads, footpaths, drainage and irrigation systems, buildings and recreation facilities, and provide minor repairs to equipment and machinery
• Carry out manual outdoor work such as mowing, whipper snipping, weed and vegetation management, litter removal and beautification
• Use Council equipment and resources regularly, including lawn mowers, trailers, trucks, whipper snippers, blowers and hand tools
• Assist with burials and cemetery maintenance, and with set-up and clean-up for Council events
• Take part in the day-to-day operations of the Infrastructure Team and complete planned works safely, following Council policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, wear PPE, and help develop the Council's emergency sub-plan
• Provide customer service by telephone, email and at the front counter

Required profile

• Practical experience in parks and gardens, horticulture, civil construction, general maintenance or a similar operational environment
• Current driver's licence and the physical capacity to perform manual outdoor work
• Ability to obtain a Heavy Rigid licence is required
• Respectful attitude towards colleagues, contractors and community members

Required skills

• Relevant plant tickets, traffic-management qualifications, chemical-handling accreditation or trade qualifications are highly regarded
• Knowledge gained through on-the-job training and workplace induction; management skills not required at this level

Salary range: $64,180 - $73,016. Applications close 31 December 2026.
