Minor Vessel Sustainment Engineer

About the role

Raytheon Australia is seeking a Minor Vessel Sustainment Engineer to support the Royal Australian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessels and Cape Class Patrol Boats. Based in Darwin, you will work closely with defence stakeholders to ensure fleet readiness and address technical issues throughout the vessel life‑cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the technical interface between the customer, management, and implementation teams.
• Engage with ship staff, SPO, and ACE stakeholders on vessel issues, defects and engineering matters.
• Review, analyse and report on engineering change proposals, including deviations and waivers.
• Develop technical instruction documentation and support minor engineering changes while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Oversee shipboard technical assurance activities such as testing, trials, commissioning and sea trials.
• Perform technical risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies in line with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System and Navy Safety Management System.
• Provide technical support and guidance to site supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve sustainment outcomes.

Required profile

• Engineering background with experience in naval or maritime sustainment activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with defence personnel, capability partners and suppliers.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
