Mining Engineer – Lake Vermont Project

About the role

Thiess is seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team on the Lake Vermont Project, located 19 km outside Dysart in Central Queensland. The role operates on an 8/6 roster and reports to the Senior Mining Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop short‑term design plans and schedules for the mining operation.
• Assist in creating and improving mine‑planning guidelines for autonomous operations.
• Reconcile actual results against the mine plan, assumptions and benchmarks.
• Verify the accuracy of operational data captured on site.
• Analyse operational data and propose improvements.
• Support the weekly dig/dump planning process in consultation with Mining Superintendents and Supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with the Weekly Plan and site Safety, Health and Environmental management systems.
• Assist with daily, weekly and monthly reporting against KPIs and budgets.
• Provide additional Mining Engineering support to the Senior Engineer as required.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Proven experience in an open‑cut mining environment.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
• Commitment to health, safety, environment and community best practices.

Required skills

• Experience with Vulcan or other mine design software.
• Scheduling experience using Spry or a comparable package.
• Familiarity with Minestar and autonomous mining systems.
