Medical Officer Aeromedical (Network Support) - Part-Time FIFO

About the role

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) is recruiting a Medical Officer Aeromedical for a 12-month, part-time (0.25 FTE) role supporting state-wide network operations in a FIFO position. You will work with the Mt Isa and Charleville bases, assisting with short-term vacancies across the state, and will be flown out from Brisbane Airport. The role involves providing retrieval and pre-hospital medical services alongside aviation and flight nurse teams.

Key responsibilities

• Work in a multi-disciplinary team on Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) taskings, including emergency retrievals and inter-facility transfers
• Liaise with RSQ, duty tasking officers and referring or receiving facilities to coordinate retrievals
• Provide telehealth to patients needing urgent care in remote locations
• Conduct handovers to care providers and give advice to nurses and other health professionals
• Take part in quality improvement activities such as clinical audits and case reviews
• Maintain accurate medical records and contribute to the strategic goals of the RFDS (QLD Section)

Required profile

• AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
• Fellowship of ACEM, ACRRM, ANZCA, CICM or RACGP; senior registrars are encouraged to apply
• At least 5 years of post-graduate experience
• Critical care experience sufficient for Queensland Health credentialing (emergency medicine, anaesthetics or intensive care for at least 6 months each, plus paediatrics or basic obstetric experience)
• Previous aeromedical retrieval experience is ideal but not required
• Ability to complete Medical Transport Specialist (MTS) training if based at Mt Isa
• Valid driver's licence, eligibility for an ASIC card and ability to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening
