Media Lawyer – 12‑month Contract

About the role

Join the ABC Legal team as a Media Lawyer on a 12‑month contract, providing legal advice across high‑profile current affairs, investigations, entertainment and news content.

Key responsibilities

• Provide quick, decisive advice on media law risks such as defamation and contempt prior to publication.
• Develop and deliver media law training to content creators.
• Offer pre‑publication advice after ordinary business hours on a rostered basis.
• Conduct media law litigation or draft content agreements as required.
• Advise on intellectual property matters related to broadcast content.

Required profile

• Admitted solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (or equivalent).
• Minimum 2‑3 years post‑admission experience in media law.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
• Strong communication, teamwork and leadership qualities.
• Sound judgment on complex legal issues, with the capacity to work independently or under supervision.

Required skills

• Expertise in media law, including defamation, contempt and intellectual property.
• Litigation experience in media‑related matters.
• Proficiency in drafting content agreements and training materials.
