Media and Communications Advisor

About the role

The Office of Leon Rebello MP is looking for a proactive Media and Communications Advisor to join the electorate office in Varsity Lakes. This full‑time position supports the Parliamentarian by creating and delivering high‑quality communications across digital, print and parliamentary channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a media and communications plan with a forward‑looking content calendar.
• Create social media posts, e‑newsletters, website updates, media releases, opinion pieces, speeches and talking points.
• Maintain the Parliamentarian’s website, ensuring accuracy and alignment with office priorities.
• Monitor local and national media, social platforms and community channels to spot content opportunities.
• Build and sustain relationships with journalists, editors and media producers.
• Attend community events, capture photos and video, and produce accompanying captions.
• Prepare briefing notes, media kits and follow‑up actions for events.
• Draft parliamentary communications such as speeches, 90‑second statements and constituency statements.
• Record media engagement metrics and maintain contact databases.

Required profile

• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
• Strong political judgement and understanding of Australian parliamentary processes.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage competing deadlines.
• Willingness to travel within the electorate and to Canberra, including occasional work outside standard hours.
