Media Advisor – External Affairs

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Media Advisor to join the External Affairs team at Aware Super. The role focuses on identifying and pitching compelling stories that highlight the fund’s people, products, performance and impact for members. You will work closely with senior media managers and business leaders to elevate Aware Super’s voice across consumer, corporate and investment communications.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, develop and pitch engaging stories that showcase Aware Super’s people, products, performance and member impact.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and producers across consumer, business, financial and trade media.
• Write media releases, statements, opinion pieces, briefing materials and spokesperson talking points.
• Manage media enquiries and coordinate responses across the business.
• Monitor media coverage, flag emerging reputation risks and opportunities.
• Support spokesperson preparation and media interview briefings.
• Contribute to proactive media campaigns that strengthen visibility and share of voice.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to uncover compelling stories and thought‑leadership opportunities.

Required profile

• 7+ years’ experience in media relations, journalism, communications or public relations.
• Proven track record of securing earned media coverage.
• Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing capabilities.
• Established relationships across Australian media networks.
• Strong judgement and ability to identify and escalate reputational risks.
• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and spokespeople.
• Experience in superannuation, financial services or another regulated industry is highly regarded.
