Media Adviser

About the role

The Media Adviser will create and deliver engaging communications that support SA Water’s objectives and strengthen its public reputation. Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will uncover positive stories, shape media strategies and produce high‑quality content for a variety of channels.

Key responsibilities

• Source, develop and publish content such as media releases, talking points, social media posts, speeches and integrated communication plans.
• Identify and promote stories that showcase SA Water’s work and impact.
• Design and execute media strategies, including planning and leading media events and announcements for SA Water and the Minister for Housing and Urban Development.
• Monitor emerging issues, respond to media enquiries and act as the communications representative during incident management.
• Support and advise media spokespeople, providing key messages and briefing materials.
• Participate in an on‑call roster (one week per 4‑5‑week cycle) to handle urgent media requests.
• Travel across metropolitan and regional South Australia to support projects, media opportunities and stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Proven background in journalism, media relations or news‑focused communications.
• Exceptional writing ability and experience creating content for diverse audiences and platforms.
• Strong understanding of the South Australian political and media landscape.
• Ability to translate technical information into clear, public‑facing messages.
• Curious, proactive and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.
