Mechanical/Mechatronics Design Engineer – R&D

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical/Mechatronics Design Engineer to join Signify’s Dynalite R&D team in Sydney. You will work on developing, testing and releasing hardware for cutting‑edge connected lighting and energy‑management solutions used worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical hardware for lighting control and energy‑management products, including plastic injection‑moulded and sheet‑metal components.
• Perform prototype build, testing, and validation, applying FEA (thermal and structural) and other analysis tools.
• Collaborate with global R&D teams to translate customer requirements into innovative product concepts and system architectures.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and incorporate DfSS, Lean, DFM, FMEA and value‑engineering principles.
• Support documentation, production hand‑over and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Minimum three years of experience in mechanical product development within an industrial or lighting‑technology environment.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary, globally distributed teams.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (3‑D CAD) – design and modelling.
• Adobe Illustrator – optional for documentation.
• Experience with plastic injection moulding, sheet‑metal design and production assembly.
• Finite‑element analysis (thermal and structural) using FEA tools.
• Knowledge of DfSS, Lean, DFM, FMEA and value‑engineering methodologies.
• Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals.
• Hands‑on prototyping and testing skills.
• Fundamentals of project management.
