Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Mineral Technologies, a Downer subsidiary, is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join its team in Carrara, Queensland. You will work on fine mineral processing projects, providing detailed mechanical design and engineering support to meet project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Produce mechanical design deliverables and detailed engineering work for project leads and design teams.
• Prepare technical documentation such as specifications, scopes of work and Material Take‑Offs (MTOs).
• Assist lead and discipline engineers in developing project‑specific design outputs.
• Contribute to technical design reports ensuring compliance with customer, design and quality standards.
• Support project managers with cost control, scheduling, procurement, inspection, expediting, construction and commissioning activities.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–5 years of experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industry or related sectors.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
