About the role

Quick Release (QR_) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Melbourne team and contribute to the design, manufacture, integration and sustainment of defence vehicles and associated systems. You will work closely with client teams, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to deliver high‑impact engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide advanced mechanical engineering expertise for defence vehicle projects.
  • Develop and review designs, drawings, specifications, calculations and technical documentation in line with company and Defence standards.
  • Conduct technical investigations, root‑cause analysis and propose corrective solutions.
  • Support engineering change management, configuration control and technical data management throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Plan and coordinate projects from concept to delivery, managing schedules, resources and budgets.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings, design reviews, risk assessments, FMEA and peer reviews.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing, assembly, supplier qualification and field sustainment activities.
  • Ensure compliance with State WHSE Acts, health‑safety and environmental regulations.

Required profile

  • Proven experience as a senior mechanical engineer, preferably in defence or related high‑technology sectors.
  • Strong ability to lead technical investigations, root‑cause analysis and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated project‑management skills, including schedule, budget and stakeholder coordination.
  • Excellent written communication for producing technical reports and documentation.
  • Commitment to health‑safety, environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
