Manager - Thematic Reviews (Operational Risk)

About the role

The Manager, Thematic Reviews supports senior leadership in delivering independent, high‑quality second‑line insights across risk themes, customer impacts, divisions, products and technologies. This role leads review engagements, connects internal risk data with market intelligence, and identifies systemic weaknesses and emerging risks to inform enterprise‑wide actions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead hypothesis‑led thematic reviews across business areas, defining scope, review questions, evidence requirements and analytical approach.
• Analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data to identify systemic themes, emerging risks and root causes.
• Develop and communicate evidence‑based line‑2 risk insights and practical recommendations to strengthen risk management and control environments.
• Oversee implementation of actions, ensuring consistent reporting, appropriate escalation and monitoring of enterprise‑level responses.
• Engage senior stakeholders, provide constructive insights, and maintain independence under pressure.
• Build effective relationships with first‑line, second‑line, Compliance, Internal Audit and other risk partners.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching and technical guidance to team members.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of thematic review methodologies, tools and practices.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of experience within the three lines of defence in financial services.
• Strong understanding of risk management, including identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring and reporting.
• Proven ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into actionable insights.
• Experience engaging senior stakeholders and influencing risk outcomes.
• Demonstrated leadership and coaching capabilities.
