Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Fitter/Electrician

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Fitter or Electrician) to support the smooth operation of rolling stock maintenance in Canberra. The role reports to Team Leaders and the Maintenance Manager and follows CAF policies and safety guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on CAF rolling stock, including HVAC, brakes, couplings and pneumatic systems.
• Test, diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical and electrical components using schematics.
• Inspect bodywork, roofs and undercarriages for wear or damage and replace parts as needed.
• Disassemble, test and reassemble mechanical, electrical and pneumatic assemblies.
• Record work in the Maintenance Management System and update material movements.

Required profile

• Trade Certificate or Licence in Electrical, Mechanical or related trade.
• Experience as a mechanic (bus/diesel) or electrician; heavy‑machinery maintenance is a plus.
• Honest, reliable and professional attitude with ability to work day/afternoon shifts on a rotational basis.
