Machine Plant Operator – 3 Permanent Roles in Western Australia

About the role

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is seeking three experienced Machine Plant Operators to join its South West Region teams in Busselton, Margaret River and Nannup. These permanent, full‑time positions support forest management, fire suppression and biodiversity projects across a diverse range of protected areas.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate heavy machinery such as a Front End Wheeled Loader (FEL) and track‑type bulldozers in forested and challenging terrain.
  • Conduct bushfire suppression activities across all fire categories and maintain fire‑line competence.
  • Apply disease‑hygiene protocols at all times while working on public lands.
  • Plan, organise and execute works programmes, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and quality standards are met.
  • Supervise, coach and train team members, identifying training needs and promoting continuous learning.
  • Liaise with external parties to secure approvals and agree on work standards before commencing operations.

Required profile

  • Demonstrated ability to operate FELs and larger track‑type bulldozers in forest environments.
  • Experience in bushfire suppression and fire‑line competence.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise daily tasks.
  • Capability to supervise, coach and train colleagues.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder engagement.
