Job description

About the role

Tamworth Hospital is seeking a Level 1 Occupational Therapist for a 12- or 24-month contract, rotating every three months across medical, surgical and inpatient rehabilitation units. The position is one of four rotating roles and involves clinical autonomy, including independent triage of referrals, clinical assessment, intervention planning and documentation using the ERIC system and Single Digital Patient Reports (SDPR). It is open to current employees of Hunter New England Local Health District or Calvary Mater Newcastle.

Key responsibilities

  • Rotate every three months between medical, surgical and inpatient rehabilitation units
  • Provide clinical autonomy: triage referrals, assess patients, plan interventions and document using ERIC and SDPR
  • Take part in a periodic weekend roster, roughly every six weeks, covering the whole hospital independently
  • Support students and contribute to the development of clinical practice
  • Join weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and prepare journal reviews, case presentations and education sessions
  • Attend local and relevant education and receive formal one-to-one supervision and orientation to each clinical area

Required profile

  • Current Occupational Therapist with an AHPRA authority to practice
  • Team-like attributes: cohesiveness, willingness to share knowledge and flexibility to move between caseloads as directed by the manager
  • Commitment to professional development, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
  • Eligibility for permanent employment requires Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency or a New Zealand passport; temporary visa holders may be considered only if no suitable local candidate is found

Required skills

  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication
  • Time management and prioritisation
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing caseloads

What we offer

  • Remuneration of $79,419 to $113,301 per annum plus superannuation and salary packaging
  • Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme: up to $10,000 in the first 12 months and up to $5,000 each year thereafter, based on a minimum 18-month commitment
  • Difficult-to-fill allowance and a designated workspace with work phone, uniform and laundry allowance
  • Weekly education sessions, knowledge sharing and professional development

To apply, use the online application form and address the selection criteria with examples of your communication, time management, professional development and teamwork.
