Legal Counsel – Infrastructure & Renewable Energy

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support a leading infrastructure and renewable energy player in Australia. The role sits at the intersection of construction law and the clean‑energy build‑out, working on high‑profile EPC and D&C contracts for wind, battery storage and transmission projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate customer, supplier and subcontractor agreements across infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
• Provide strategic legal advice on project delivery, contract interpretation, risk allocation and dispute avoidance.
• Advise on claims, variations, extensions of time and other contractual matters.
• Partner with commercial, engineering and procurement teams to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
• Help shape contract templates and procedures, and manage external counsel when required.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in safety, environment and energy markets.
• Deliver training and guidance on key legal principles to project and commercial teams.

Required profile

• 3‑8 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure or renewable energy (in‑house or private practice).
• Strong grounding in construction and contract law, especially EPC and D&C models.
• Exposure to renewable or energy transition projects such as wind, BESS or transmission.
• Proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex contracts with commercial focus.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
