Legal Counsel – APAC Region

About the role

Metlen Energy & Metals is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its APAC team within the Legal Technical Contracts Division based in Melbourne. You will provide coordinated legal advice across the region, supporting a range of commercial and corporate matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support to all functions across APAC, ensuring compliance with internal processes and applicable laws.
• Collaborate with Development, Asset Management, EPC, Finance and O&M teams, as well as external counsel, on due diligence, corporate governance and company secretarial matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate and execute procurement contracts, construction sub‑contracts and other commercial agreements.
• Oversee contract approval processes, prepare legal activity reports and escalate significant issues to the Head of Legal – APAC.
• Maintain and update precedent documentation, policies and procedures in partnership with regional and global legal teams.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a recognised legal qualification and a current practising certificate in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience gained in private practice.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge and practical experience in commercial contracting and corporate/commercial law.
• Familiarity with construction/EPC projects and the renewable energy sector (advantageous).
