About the role

The University of Melbourne is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Statistics to lead an independent, high‑quality research programme and contribute to innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will join a research‑intensive school, collaborate across disciplines, and help shape data‑driven methods with real‑world impact.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent research, publish in leading outlets, and present at seminars and conferences.
• Secure external research funding and supervise MSc and PhD students.
• Design, deliver, and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses, incorporating modern technologies.
• Provide academic mentoring, oversee coursework programmes, and support diverse student groups.
• Contribute leadership and service to the school, university, and the broader statistical community.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent research higher degree in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research excellence with strong publications and an emerging or established international reputation.
• Evidence of ability to strengthen research and education activities and broaden thematic strengths.
• Track record of building productive collaborations and attracting competitive funding.
• Experience designing and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate subjects with supervision potential.
• Commitment to collegial contribution, leadership, and engagement with diverse communities.
