Lecturer in American/Australian Studies

About the role

The University of Queensland's Centre for Western Civilisation, in partnership with the School of Communication and Arts, is appointing a Lecturer in American/Australian Studies. The position is part-time (60%) with the option to progress to full-time, based at the St Lucia campus. It is a fixed-term appointment starting in Semester 1 2027 and ending on 30 June 2031, at Academic Level B, with a base salary of $119,462 to $141,545 plus 17% superannuation. The role contributes to teaching, research and service within a Great Books program.

Key responsibilities

• Teach: develop and deliver courses, design and coordinate curricula, assess students, give academic counselling and follow university teaching rules.
• Research: establish a research program, collaborate on projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals and use sound research methods.
• Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, give performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts and ensure correct pay and benefits.
• Citizenship and service: build partnerships, mentor, take part in internal service roles and committees, support colleagues and uphold university values.

Required profile

• PhD in Australian or American literature.
• Growing profile in teaching and research in American and Australian literature and culture, and experience teaching Great Books or similar programs.
• Developing reputation for publications in refereed journals and conference presentations.
• Evidence of having sought, obtained and managed external research funding.
• High-quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels, in small and large groups.
• Experience in course coordination and program development, and in internal service roles.
