Learning and Development Trainer and Assessor

About the role

The Learning and Development Trainer and Assessor will join the Learning and Organisational Development branch of the Public Transport Authority. Reporting to the Training Delivery Lead, you will deliver accredited and non‑accredited training, assessments and learning programs that support safety, capability and performance of operational staff and contractors across the rail network.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and assess training programs aligned with PTA objectives, rail safety requirements and future workforce needs.
• Conduct training needs analysis, review existing learning materials and develop new content to meet evolving compliance standards.
• Ensure all delivery and assessment activities comply with PTA standards, RTO requirements and relevant legislation.
• Collaborate with the RTO Quality and Compliance team to maintain industry and regulatory alignment.
• Apply adult‑learning principles to achieve high‑quality learner outcomes.
• Mentor new trainers, provide guidance on safeworking competence and identify continuous‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or ability to obtain it within an agreed timeframe.
• Operational or technical experience in rail environments, including knowledge of Safeworking rules.
• Certificate IV in Rail Network Control or equivalent PTA safeworking competencies (highly regarded).
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal abilities.
• Analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills with a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Safeworking rules applicable to rail safety activities.
